Fabrication Shop Project Manager

Steel Valley Fabricators, LLC (SVF) is a full-service, custom metal fabrication shop with portable welding and installation capabilities. We specialize in sheet, plate, structural, and pipe fabrication utilizing modern welding, bending, shearing, and cutting equipment and procedures in our 40,000 sq. ft. manufacturing facility located near Pittsburgh, PA.


Project Managers are responsible for estimating, selling, and providing top-level oversight for projects to maximize customer satisfaction and profitability.

 

Responsibilities Include:
  • Estimating. Create accurate and timely project cost estimates. Aid in continuous improvement of the standard estimating tools and resources. Support fellow Project Managers with estimate review and advice. Maintain the working estimate throughout the life of the project.

  • Proposal Writing. Develop detailed proposals to sell projects and agreements with our customers.

  • Organization Building. Set up and kick-off newly sold projects and communicate the pertinent details of the project to the project team. Setup and maintain the project files in a way that fosters teamwork, uniformity, and transparency.

  • Organizational Support – Follows policies and procedures; completes administrative tasks correctly and on time; supports the organization’s goals and values.

  • Procurement. Purchase materials for the project or assign inventory for use. Arrange for logistics and freight. 

  • Scheduling. Provide a leadership role on the project team in promoting efficient and accurate schedule communication. Ensure that assigned projects are being well-represented in any scheduling documents, spreadsheets, or tools. 

  • Subcontractor Management. Manage the subcontractors on assigned projects. Develop work scopes that should provide the basis for RFQ’s and subcontracts. Lead in communication, scheduling and financial management of subcontractors.

  • Change Order Management. Lead all aspects of change order management. Balance profitability with customer satisfaction as you identify, properly notify, estimate, and sell change orders on assigned projects.

  • Accounts Receivable Invoicing. Initiate receivable invoices. Ensure that the invoices are accurate and timely. Assist in collections as needed.

  • Project Financials. Complete job cost forecasting quarterly. Review project financials. Gain and maintain a solid understanding of the financial performance of your projects. Utilize financial lessons learned from each project to benefit the Company.

  • Computer Skills: - To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; Internet software; and e-mail.

  • Continuous Improvement. Utilize experience and skills to identify opportunities for improvement of company practices and resources. Bring these observations and suggestions to group managers and help with implementation as applicable. Promote all aspects of Total Quality Management (TQM) program.

  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM). Build and maintain positive relationships with existing customers and pursue opportunities with new clients and new industries. Maintain close customer contact to ensure that the Company’s products and services are meeting or exceeding customer expectations. Record and report information in a way that benefits the project team. Responds promptly to internal and external customer needs; responds to requests for service and assistance; meets commitments.

  • Problem Solving – Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; gathers and analyzes information skillfully; develops alternative solutions; works well in group problem solving situations.

  • Attendance/Punctuality – Is consistently at work and on time; ensures work responsibilities are covered when absent; arrives at meetings and appointments on time.

  • Travel.  Visits are needed for customer and vendor relationship building and maintenance as well as for pre-bid job walks.


Employee Must:
  • Be at least 18-years old.

  • Be eligible to work in the United States.

  • Be willing to authorize background check.

  • Have no criminal convictions for dishonesty, sexual misconduct, violence, or acts of terrorism.

  • Be willing to authorize motor vehicle driving record checks.

  • Have valid driver’s license and reliable, insured transportation.

  • Be willing to submit to pre-hire, random, and post-incident drug and alcohol testing.

  • Have good communication skills.

  • Have good attendance and show up to work on time every day.

  • Have strong basic math and measuring skills.

  • Have an eye for quality and strong attention to detail.

  • Be self-motivated and eager to learn and improve.

  • Be willing to travel in tri-state area.
